Description
Our client is currently hiring a Senior Quality Assurance Specialist. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of current US Food Regulations, especially related to product compliance, or will be able to look up information by independently researching through regulatory documents. This role will communicate with international and domestic suppliers in obtaining needed information and will actively work with internal cross-functional teams – Innovations, Marketing, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Sale so that the food safety and quality control processes and results are understood and meet regulatory and company standards. This role will report directly to the Senior Food Safety and Quality Manager.
Responsibilities
• Assist in managing GDP re-certification for all distribution centers
• Actively participate in and prepare for customer audits and any regulatory inspections. Complete any corrective or follow up actions as needed
• Be responsible for and assist with documentation and maintenance of the company Food Safety and Quality system including managing procedures and verified records
• Assist in compliance and execution of the company Food Safety and Quality system in accordance with FSMA, FSVP, FDA, USDA and other appropriate regulatory guidelines. Manage and execute documentation and review requirements for FSVP
• Responsible for and assist in training and development of company food safety guidelines
• Conduct periodic internal food safety and quality audits
• Review and evaluate information provided from suppliers to verify product compliance against US Laws and Regulations per CFR and FSMA
• Evaluate each product status and maintain certificates - e.g.: Organic, Kosher, Halal, GMO, allergen status, plant-based, and Clean
• Promote the importance and understanding of a food safety culture throughout the organization
• Perform other relevant FSQA tasks as needed
Qualifications and Skills
• 3-5 years relevant experience in food safety and quality
• Trained and strong understanding of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual), and FSVP (Foreign Supplier Verification Program)
• Knowledge of Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)
• Proficient in Excel and Word; Strong computer skills
• Capable of obtaining needed information by researching and understanding regulations and laws
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and capacity to multitask efficiently
• Expected travel: 25%
Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Chemistry or another relevant technical fields
• HACCP certificate
• Experienced with documentation or data management
• Solid knowledge of food compliance and state/federal laws and regulations
• Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
• Ability to work independently and handle multitasking
