ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you a Jack or Jill of all trades? Do you enjoy working cross functionally across the organization to produce the best product for the customer, if so, then our client wants to talk to you! They are currently seeking a customer and product-oriented Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Specialist. You will serve as a vital part of the organization when it comes to keeping customers happy and in the know with all things food safety and compliance related. They are really looking for a researcher and investigator who understands food safety and quality assurance, and someone who wants to work in dynamic and transformative environment!

This role is office-based and does not include lab work.

As a response to the pandemic, the company’s office employees have transitioned to a hybrid working schedule, requiring employees to report in-person Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to telework on Monday and Friday each week. Due to the collaborative, cross-functional nature of the organization, employees at the NY and NJ offices are required to work in-person for the abovementioned days, outside of any People & Culture-approved disability accommodation request.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Effectively communicate with suppliers to get accurate information for all products.
• Work on cross functional team with Innovation, Category Management and Creative to bring new items to the market in a timely manner.
• Research and investigate proper labeling of ingredients.
• Assure supplier compliance with product consistency among multiple suppliers.
• Evaluate GMO, allergen statements and gluten statements from all suppliers.
• Work with the Creative and Revenue Management departments regarding label compliance.
• Review for accuracy all ingredient declarations, weight statements and nutrition facts panels to comply with all labeling regulations.
• Evaluate supplier information to verify product compliance against Company standards, labeling laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required
• 2+ years’ experience in the food industry as food tech/QA/food safety with a background in food manufacturing and/or food imports.
• General knowledge of HACCP, ISO 9002, GMP, and USDA, FDA, and federal, state and local laws.
• Strong computer skills; proficient in Excel and Word.
• Food safety and nutrition knowledge; general food science knowledge; familiar with analytical and microbiological terms.

Preferred
• BS in food science, biology or nutrition. A culinary arts degree and/or related work experience will also be considered.
• Interest and aptitude for science and technology; good mathematic skills.
• Proficient in gleaning information by observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
• Efficient with processing information by compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
• Good oral and written communication skills including technical writing.
• Active learner; good initiative; excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented and accurate; problem solver.
