Job Summary

The Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) Design Engineering Leader is responsible for managing the CSA discipline engineering team and design team. The CSA team provides engineering and design support for Capital projects. The Design Engineering Leader is responsible for ensuring all work is completed in adherence to industry codes and standards; the company’s corporate and plant standards; and plant health, safety, and environmental guidelines, and requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage the civil, structural and architectural discipline team in supporting capital projects.
• Ensure all team goals and metrics are met or exceeded.
• Resource planning and scheduling to meet project objectives and schedule milestones.
• Manage project workload using in-house and contract resources.
• Monitor project quality, schedule, and productivity for CSA engineering and design work.
• Develop, review, and approve engineering deliverables such as specifications, reports, drawings, etc. produced by internal and external engineering and design resources.
• Engage in the detailed CSA engineering and work with designers and/or CAD operators to ensure accuracy and consistency in drawing presentation and information.
• Conduct or champion CSA design review meetings with all stakeholders.
• Engage in interdisciplinary project reviews with mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation teams.
• Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) requirements are adequately developed and met for engineering, design, and installation work.
• Provide project scoping input to ensure estimate accuracy and appropriate materials and methods are utilized in an efficient design.
• Quickly assess and make recommendations (rapid problem solving) regarding CSA issues.
• Support plant operations and maintenance as needed.
• Some travel is required (10-20%).

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering.
• P.E. license (ability to obtain PA and VA licenses).
• 10 years of experience in CSA design in chemical or similar industry required.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

• 5 years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
• AutoCAD knowledge, 2D, 3D, and CADWorx (3D Plant design software).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate in English.
• Must be an agent for change; not satisfied with the status quo.
• Must have a willingness to take strong and effective action to reduce cost, improve quality, and shorten cycle time; committed to continuous improvement; recommend and develop innovative processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to all levels and kinds of people; able to build appropriate rapport and listen well.
